Micro Cap Equity

Robeco Weiss, Peck & Greer

Using the information edge gained from visiting over 3500 small companies...

Few managers can claim to have an information advantage; the WPG Small and Micro Cap Value Equities team is the exception. During the 11 years that the six-person team has worked together, they have visited roughly 3,500 small and micro cap companies.

Led by Richard Shuster and Greg Weiss, the team immerses itself in finding, analyzing, and meeting with 600 companies each year especially since most of these companies have few, if any, analysts covering them. We have a distinct advantage in our access to their management teams. Team members often meet with company management for years to fully understand their business strategy, the strength of leadership, and the company's products, markets and customers.

Key Investment Criteria

Investment Philosophy

  • We believe in intensive research that begins with management discussion and progresses through financial screening, valuation analysis and catalyst identification

  • We identify undervalued companies that are undergoing positive change.

Our Approach

Our fundamental research focuses on identifying companies with; high returns on invested capital, a management track record that demonstrates a sensible allocation of capital, strong balance sheets with high levels of interest coverage, and a high free cash flow yield.

Management discussions, catalyst identification and valuation analysis complete the investment process. We purchase securities that: meet the investment criteria listed above and show upside potential that outweighs downside risk.

In summary, our competitive advantages are:

  • In depth knowledge of the small/micro cap segment and the companies we invest in
  • A consistent and repeatable investment methodology
  • A track record that includes no bankruptcies by portfolio companies
